The US Senate approves the National Defense Authorization Act of 2021 that approves spending for AI as part of the defense fund
The US Senate Armed Services Committee has approved the National Defense Authorization Act of 2021 spending that exceeds the limits set. The goal is to facilitate the development of emerging technologies, in order to remain competitive in the international market.
The approval contains extensive calls for modernizing and advancing the development of emerging technologies and updating existing technology. In particular, in strengthening scientific efforts the system calls for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technology. The authorization also seeks to leverage available commercial technologies in the field of AI by the Department of Defense. Finally, in order to attract greater talent in the field of information technology, the report requests that highly qualified cyber personnel should be encouraged by providing comparative salaries alongside those of the commercial industry. This also includes funding For the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center.
